to pamper / birchbox for men

I’m not a big self-promoter (most of the time), so it’s taken a while for friends to find this blog (because it’s not plastered all over my Facebook). I met up with old friends over the weekend and the blog inevitably came up. I really wish I lived near some shopping-loving girlfriends, but I’m sure they’re glad I’m far away and keeping my (bad) influence away.

One friend said that he wasn’t into the food posts, and since I will never forget the story of him refusing to play tennis because he had already showered and put on lotion… this post is for him and all my other metrosexual readers out there.

I like Birchbox and love new products. Birchbox finally came out with a box for men! It’s not a monthly deal (yet?), but if you’re scratching your head on what to gift the guy who doesn’t need anything, consider this. $45 for $240 worth. After all the Sephora F&F value set shopping, I have to stop my brain from automatically deducting 20%. I wouldn’t mind stealing a few things above and I also happen to have a Jack Black-loving girlfriend ;)

I previously mentioned Birchbox in my wishlist. $10/month gets you a surprise box of goodies. Someone asked me why I subscribed.
– I’m a product junkie who likes to stay on top of the new finds.
– I follow Birchbox’s blog and they do a good job of introducing up-and-coming, boutique brands as well as provide a generous sample of all-time favorites of well established brands.
– If you break down the $ value of the box, it’s always worth more than $10.
– Since there is a surprise element, I prefer a sample size over a regular sized product. Less wasteful.

I’m on month two and here’s a quick look at my December and January boxes.

general / wishlist

People who know me well, know that I love to give gifts when I feel like it, and not for an occasion. I’m not sure if it’s a part of my Chinese/Taiwanese upbringing, but I especially love sharing food or other small things. It is further encouraged when it is reciprocated. My roommate is a regular recipient of many red bean, hot pink, and/or funky things that I encounter, but for the occasions where I have to gift, I often save things that I get from shopping trips and vacations. I then add it to a stockpile for that person. E.g. P’s birthday present was years in the making.

As much as I like to gift, I am not a big fan of presents because I am particular. Luckily, with age, dinners often replace presents and those who gift has been hitting the mark without prompt. If I had to make a wishlist, what would be on my list, or what would I gift if I didn’t have a stockpile?
