The Spring/Summer Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange collaboration dropped yesterday. It’s inspired by the Southern port city of Marseille and is breezy and casual. Read cotton, sun dried, ruffled, less polish and ironing.

Flagship NYC Fifth Avenue store. The striped sweater is a linen blend and pilling on the rack (warning).

The sad thing is that the pictured straw tote is not sold at Uniqlo.

As usual, the US Uniqlo site isn’t that great for lookbooks. For reviews/lookbook/styling info:

I stopped by the NYC flagship store yesterday (launch date) for a quick browse. The racks were surprisingly well stocked and there was no crowd. I had already placed an order online (and hope they don’t majorly mess up my order like the last IDLF drop). Some items I saw online had no appeal to me but had the opposite effect in person. In general, sizing looks similar to prior IDLF collections (true to size), but there are some items that are cut more generously whether it’s due to the fabric or fit due to the Marseilles concept.

The shirt jacket is unlined and lightweight, the stadium jacket is thicker (but not my style). Both come in various colors.

The polo sweater quickly sold out and is one of the few items I would put in the ‘fits small’ category. It comes in 4 colors and 3 of them have a light colored collar. I have an aversion to light colored collars. Hand wash only.

Women IDLF Polo Short-Sleeve Sweater

This tee is a thicker knit with a clingier fit. It is very stretchy. I wish the neck was a crewneck.

This collection has a ton of shirtdresses. Some of them are called tunics, but they’re long enough to wear as a dress. The one on the left was a quick seller and has a microdot print on a thicker indigo fabric. The pintuck makes it look abnormally long, but it looks normal in person. A belt might work with it. In general, these have a generous fit around the bust and are hip friendly. However, unless you have skinny arms, the sleeves may be too tight to comfortably size down.

Close-up of the microdot print. It also comes in a shirt.

Aside from stripes, the collection has a lot of dots. On the left is the wrap dress in the promotional pictures. It comes in black or brown. Brown polka dot dresses always remind me of the horse race dress Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman  In general, I found the other rayon dotted items (shirts, skirts) to be boring. The dots on the dress on the right are less boring.

There is always a navy blazer in every collection. This one has wider lapels and single button closure. The linen jacket is unlined hence lightweight and comes off casual despite being in a more serious plaid print.

More un-boring dots on silk neck scarves. Uniqlo recently had some other dot neck scarves that had a more interesting print, although it was in a thin silk-like polyester and hence half the price.

These straw-looking totes were larger than expected. They looked pretty durable for being woven paper and are fully lined in cotton. I’m not sure how popular woven paper is in general, but the woven paper panama hat I got in Provence is still going strong after 2 summers!

I love Uniqlo — it’s such a great value, good quality, and practical. Here is what I’ve seen or bought lately:

Extra Fine Cotton Oversized Shirts
Comes in stand collar, solid collared, and striped collared. I initially saw this on someone on IG and loved it. I wouldn’t have given it a second look otherwise. I ended up keeping 3 of these (all of the collared shirts were on sale for $9.90). The prices were raised and the smaller sizes are pretty sold out. It looks great with legging pants, sleeves rolled up and is light enough for yearround wear. This is an oversized fit, it runs big. Size down!

The recurring Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange collaboration is my favorite Uniqlo collab to date for its quality, wearability, fit, and classic styles.

The Fall/Winter 2016 collection just dropped a few days ago and has three style concepts: La Femme Rive Droite (Paris Right Bank), La Femme Rive Gauche (Paris Left Bank), and 70s Rock. Not all of the styles have dropped — more are coming in October.

The US Uniqlo site isn’t that great this time in terms of lookbooks or even explaining the concept. For reviews/lookbook/styling info:

When shopping the desktop version of the site, all item measurements are listed in the “size chart”. In general, I find IDLF to run true to size. Their sweaters and knit tops have a slimmer fit. Some coats may run big (like the prior season trench coats). If anything is sold out, for the US site at least, you can sign up to be notified when an item is re-stocked.

I’m not a sweater person and don’t wear work-friendly button down shirts as much as I’d like, so I gravitate through fitted tees (that are easy to care for), casual flannel buttondowns, blazers, and outerwear. These are my favorites:

Carine Roitfeld’s collection was supposed to drop on October 29, but it’s went live early — which is great because I’m jetlagged and need to go to bed asap! I hope their sizing is typical of their normal. Are you a fan of tailored pieces, polka dots, black, or leopard? Click away. Code SPOOKY also takes $31/$150 and can be used multiple times.

This leopard coat is selling out fast. A shorter version, both in faux fur.

Uniqlo’s having a huge anniversary sale right now. This IDLF trench is $39.90 down from $129.90. Size down! Random sizes in stock as of press time. Also used code SPOOKY for $31 off $150. They also restocked on other IDLF items including the corduroy blazers, the sleek ultra light down jacket, and the poly/nylon pea coat. Check back often as they do restock throughout the day.

Ines de la Fressange’s 4th collaboration with Uniqlo has partially dropped and shouts autumn with velvet, corduroy, tweed, and fair isle. Lots of blazers, coats, scarves, and hats. I have my eye on the corduroy blazer, lightweight long pea coat, gauze scarf, and checkered scarf. If I didn’t already have one from two seasons ago, I’d add the navy blazer to the list. (Previous coverage on Uniqlo x IDLF here, here, and here.)

Full collection (And don’t forget 6% back on eBates!) Edit: eBates is down to 1.5%. MrRebate is at 2%.

Most of Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange Spring 2015 is on sale. This linen tailored jacket is a favorite and looks to have been massively restocked in the last 24 hours. Great quality and great fit! Currently on sale for $49.90, there’s another coupon if you purchase over $125 and shipping is free on all orders. My only quibble is I need to alter the sleeve length. If your size is out, the website seem to restock frequently at all times of the day.

Sidenote: Dear Uniqlo, if you had an online price adjustment policy, I would make less returns.

Confession: I placed a huge Uniqlo order at the beginning of the month. It was so large that they had to ship it in two huge boxes. I was extremely unmotivated to open them until this weekend.

Lots on sale at Uniqlo lately. Here are my sale picks which all happen to be $19.90 and are polka dot or stripe strong. Three of the four pieces below are from the Ines de la Fressange collection that I previously wrote about. Really really love this collection!

Images from Uniqlo

  • The striped top is cut to accommodate non-ruler figures. I love it. I highly recommend it and the dress version. Note: this is a thicker cotton so will not be suitable for a typical hot summer day.
  • Lightweight parka comes in various colors.
  • This hoodie is from a collection with Yayoi Kusama and was from the guys’ side. If you really like it, Moma has it in stock.
  • Usually silk blouses are too high maintenance for me. This IDLF one is cut well and can be machine washed!

As for the non-pictured John Robshaw collection. I am not a fan of the tees, but the linen dresses are cut well.

I kind of gave up on shopping at Uniqlo in Asia – everything’s cut shorter and smaller and prices are higher because their sales aren’t as good. I’m pulling the trigger on many things and apologize to the Paramus store in advance if I end up returning in-store.

  • Previously mentioned here. I have to say — former French model Inès de la Fressange’s collabs are my favorite Uniqlo collabs to date. IDLF’s quality is really superb for its retail price. No offense, +J. Most of her spring collection is on sale. There are remnants of her winter collection still on sale, like this flannel shirt that was marked down to $3.90. I have the polka dot version and won’t have sale googles on this shirt. Polka dot fans, don’t miss this parka, silk tee, or silk shirt.
  • This chic ultra lightweight down coat is marked down. I ordered and returned it, but as the reviewers said — it needs some work to keep it closed (add buttons).
  • John Robshaw’s collection just dropped and it’s very eye-catching. It’s much more wearable to me than Orla was. Much of it is half price on promotion. Similar comments for the other ‘special collections’.
  • I’m not opposed to trying stuff from the men’s side. Like this Yayoi hoodie and this gray/black hoodie that reminds me of the Nike tech fleece cape jacket.

If you’re looking to stock your wardrobe with cotton, linen, modal, or rayon for the summer, head to Uniqlo.

I used to check Forever 21 new arrivals at least once a week. The “good” stuff goes fast, I’d say! Now that I’ve gotten older, my tastes have matured a bit and I haven’t shopped at Forever 21 in years. Uniqlo is the object of my obsession — quality and durable style. Despite having relatively easy access to multiple Uniqlo stores, I’m lazy and still prefer to shop online. Their October anniversary sales are continuing and collabs are up this week.

As I mentioned in earlier posts, I’ve been very impressed by the Ines de la Fressange collection especially after seeing her last collection. If you’re looking for any of these items, you must check it out! The sale is through Sunday. More of the collection will be dropping next month. Note: while these items are in black or blue (aka my favorite colors!), most of these items come in colors other than black and blue. I’m also including a review of Urban Sweats at the end of the post.
