to shop / gossamer birch shell – which color?

I lost track of Anthropologie for a while until Thanksgiving. I can’t resist additional off 50% off sales! And then, I kind of figured out the “secret” behind nabbing sales merchandise. The thing with Anthropologie and J.Crew is that they always have “cheap” stuff on sale. By cheap, I mean, tops for $30 or less, but most of the them, these tops aren’t great fabric content and won’t wear well without constant dry cleaning. I’m not letting myself get sucked into “cheap” sale stuff anymore and am glad that Anthropologie has a wonderful return policy.

During my random jaunts to Anthropologie, I saw this shell by Yoana Baraschi. I consider her brand to be one of the nicer, more substantial ones that Anthropologie carries. She’s the designer behind the popular Veiled Alder Dress, which kept on selling out at full price (and is now 50% off).

I admired its sister, the gossamer birch shell, from afar and finally found two in my size during my many trips to return massively reduced purchases. The strange thing is that the sizing is inconsistent between colors. The red fits bigger. I was debating between colors when I found out that the top was slashed another 50%, so I went back to Anthropologie for a price adjustment because it was within 2 weeks of purchase. It gave me less pressure to decide, but I’m in a get-rid-of-things mode. Which color should I keep? I’m leaning towards the red, but the bff liked the blue.

to shop / my infatuation with lace dresses

Image source: Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Elie Tahari

If you’ve read enough of my blogs, you’d know that I adore lace. Lace dresses, lace tops, lace leggings, etc. If you’re looking for a lace dress, there is plenty of selection on sale right now at, but not limited to, Shopbop, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard’s, and Neiman Marcus. I am shying away from Zara and Forever 21 because the quality of their lace isn’t as good, or it just looks like lace. It is an investment piece and most of these can also be dressed down for work (i.e. lower cost per wear) by throwing a blazer over, belting, and/or wearing tights.

Row 1: Nanette Lepore Amore Mio ($398, prior season), ML Monique Lhuillier Midnight Lace Cocktail Dress ($398), Elie Tahari Lolly ($698)

Row 2: Adrianna Papell E! Red Carpet Collection Lace Overlap Sheath Dress ($158, and a doppelgänger for DVF’s Zarita, current season), Milly Celia Chantilly ($435, not on sale yet), DKNY Lace Dress with Scalloped Hem ($345)

Row 3: Not relevant, but too gorgeous to exclude. Elie Tahari Selma Blouse ($308)

And hopefully none of you are crazy enough to pay retail for these dresses! 70%+ is my preferred discount :)

to shop / lace, liberty, and eyelet

Everyone close to me knows that I looooove lace and eyelet. And prints by Orla Kiely, Marimekko, or Liberty of London. Some current faves:

(Clockwise from the top left. Photo credit:,,, and

1. Marc by Marc Jacobs Edith Eyelet Top from the Spring 2011 collection. I had my eyes on this top for a long time and it took Saks long enough to add it to the markdowns. I strategically redeemed some American Express Membership Reward points in advance of the sale and snagged the last one, which happened to be in my size. (Tip: You can return gift cards and get your reward points rebanked. You can’t beat Amex service!) The eyelet is intricate and the construction is impeccable. I got a few eyelet tops made in Shanghai in 2007 and this is one of those items where you really need source the eyelet from the right place. The dress version is also gorgeous.

2. Urban Outfitters Staring at Stars Eyelet Blouse. Their product styling needs major help. I rarely scour Urban Outfitter and came across this top when I was going through their boutique, where it’s styled much more attractively. I love the neckline! I haven’t seen it in person yet, but the reviews are favorable. Not on sale yet.

3. Sessun Riverside Dress. Sessun is a great French label that can be lumped with A.P.C, Comptoir des Cotonniers, etc. Buried in the details is the Liberty fabric. I adore Liberty prints and fabrics, which have been made popular in recent years by J.Crew, Cacharel, and the Target collab. The prints are so cheerful. This dress is currently 50% off.
