to shop / reviews!

(1) There was a frenzy a while back and this Love Sam lace blouse sold out. But, then Shopbop restocked and Anthropologie got it too. It’s a copy of Etoile Isabel Marant’s Garbo blouse from last summer. I don’t have the appetite for Etoile Isabel Marant prices, so this will suffice. It is on the shorter side and runs big. It’s super breezy for hot summer days. It comes in black as well on Shopbop, but it’s too dark for the summer!

(2) I’m not keeping this mesh dottie top by Sweet Pea from Anthropologie, but some people might like the style. It’s a bit too vintage for me.

(3) My favorite proper striped boatneck mariniere is from Uniqlo (second would be Petit Bateau!). Warning, it runs big and is a heavier cotton so it’s not for hot weather. I have two from a few years ago and they both have held up very well. Sidenote: If you get your hands on the Airism slip, it’s fabulous for hot weather. It’s hard to find though – sold out super fast in the US and I didn’t even see it in HK/Singapore.

to shop / what is up with down

I have waited a long time for chic and affordable down “jackets”. After using Uniqlo for a few seasons, “lightweight” is also a must.

I’m so glad I didn’t go out of my way to get the EU-only Uniqlo x Comptoir des Cotonniers down jackets last year, because it’s hit Uniqlo now for a much lower price and without colorblocking!

I’m a huge fan of Uniqlo’s ultra lightweight down. It is extremely light, compact, slimming, yet super warm. It’s perfect to pack for a trip where you need to cover multiple climates with limited luggage space, because it takes up close to no space.

This year’s down collection has a few new styles. If you really like something, don’t wait too long because they do sell out and do not always restock. Also, they tend to tweak styles year to year, so what you got last year may not be identical to what you get this year. Some of the new styles are minimally fashionable (unlike Moncler). Other styles acknowledge layering and are cut to minimize bulk. I can’t wait to check out the collarless jacket (which admittedly looks a bit like the jacket I got from Joe Fresh last year and haven’t worn yet).

While I typically gravitate towards black, I’ve purposely selected colors to demonstrate the detail and color range.

My petite friends, don’t forget to check out the kids’ styles. In looking at the extremely detailed size charts, the largest kid size (150) should fit a petite S – M. I think these would layer well.

I haven’t tried any of these “foldable, ultra light down” jackets from Spanish brand, Mango, but let me know your thoughts if you do. Mango’s distribution center is located in NJ, so shipping to NYC is typically next day and return shipping is a minimal cost.

to shop / leopard coats and accents

There is a ton of leopard on the market, but not all are tastefully done.

I like Gryphon, which was started by a former Vogue writer. After seeing this 2010 snow leopard print wool coat on Lucky’s Emily Hsieh (major girl crush) and another blogger, I stalked, stalked, and stalked until I was met with success earlier this season. It fits beautifully, much better than the Emerson Fry leopard linen wingtip coat which reminded me of a lab coat. I just need to get it to the dry cleaners first. (Update: I am selling this in size M, please leave a comment or email me at irenelikes at gmail if you are interested!)

I am still intrigued by the faux fur leopard coat. The Forever 21 was too big, the Mango one is pretty sold out, and the ASOS looks more appealing than the F21 one since there are numerical sizes.

Forever 21 Leopard Faux Fur Jacket (on sale for $22 with code HOLIDAY50) / Mango Animal Print Faux Fur Coat (on sale for $99.99 / newer style on sale here) / ASOS Coat in Leopard with Button Front (on sale for $61.57)

If you prefer a small amount of controlled leopard, check out the Keds Champion Laceless Animal (find here or here – note 6pm’s price sometimes fluctuates to $18). They run TTS to slightly big but not enough to size down.

For a subdued leopard, there are also these comfy Old Navy Rockstar Animal Print Jeans. Similar to my post on their chambray shirt, the pros are a classy print, various color/sizing options, and they are super affordable. The color on the left is super subtle in person.
