to shop / {gap favorites} march 2012

Of the Gap Inc. family, Gap is by far my favorite in terms of quality, pricing, and versatility. I like items that can be dressed up for work and down for play. Here are some of my favorites.

The Wrap Dress

ruffle wrap dress / pink (or navy) solid wrap dress / dotted wrap dress / black solid wrap dress

I particularly like the black one. The pink did nothing for my complexion and as I’ve learned in my recent purging, I tend to only like prints for a season or two. The style runs TTS to big. If you’re petite (which I am considered to be at 5’3″) but still want a decent length near the knees, go with the regular length and size down. Downside with the black dress is that returns are mail only. I found that the most flattering fit involved taking the belt out of the loop. The fabric is a nice polyester/rayon/spandex blend that doesn’t show all lumps and bumps. I will be testing Woolite Extra Dark on this. Continue reading “to shop / {gap favorites} march 2012”

to decorate / stripes!

I found an old West Elm gift card while I was cleaning my room. When coupled with another gift card, it is a nice chunk of change. I’ve been drooling over striped bedding and shower curtains for a while now and all bedding and bath is currently 20% off. Sale items are also additional 20% off.

I’m glad I didn’t settle for any striped bedding earlier. It wasn’t quite the right type of stripe. I love West Elm’s fresh and modern design. It really cheers up the interiors. My room is pretty neutral, just the way I like it, so I like to accent with a fun bedspread. I’ve never tried WE bedding before. Hope the quality holds up. Too bad this set isn’t organic. It’s a tough call between the colors.

to shop / marinière & stripes

While I love lace, polka dots, and marinière stripes, my love for the former two are waning. I think stripes are the most versatile print of the three. I think I’m far from getting sick of stripes — I picked up five striped tops in Paris! Each interpretation was so unique. Look how cheerful a striped tee makes an outfit.

to shop / tommy hilfiger?

Don’t ask me how I got on Tommy Hilfiger’s mailing list. I got an email last week, announcing their 40% off Friends and Family sale. I decided to check it out since magazines occasionally featured something attractive from Tommy. Convincing: 40%, free shipping over $150, eBates cashback, and free returns.

I ended up loving this striped top. I love stripes, but it’s not easy finding well-executed striped tops. This piece has flattering seams and can be dressed up or down. It fits TTS to a little big with a slim cut on the sleeves (which is very flattering). I usually prefer silk over polyester, but this piece is much more durable and easier to maintain in polyester. The roommate promptly ordered one, with plans to alter the tight elbows.
